Vladyslav V, Grade 10, Kyiv

My name is Vlad and I am a 10th grade student in PSI and the war in Ukraine has changed everything in every aspect for me. But one of the most noticeable impacts for me was on energy stability and especially electricity. In fact, in 2024 Ukraine had 1,951 hours without electricity. That’s over 81 full days of power outages during which students had to study and live, and generators were almost the only solution that did not always work because of such a heavy load. When I was choosing the topic for my personal project, blackouts were the main problem in my life and also in line with my interest in the topic of energy and the economic impact of this crisis.

That’s why I decided to focus on renewable energy in Ukrainian schools. I wanted to understand how schools like PSI could become more energy-independent using energy sources like solar panels and smart energy systems. My goal wasn’t just to learn about the problem, but to actually share possible solutions. The best way to share something with people is to engage them. That’s exactly what I tried to do with my video. I tried to explain such a difficult and global problem in the easiest way I could. I think I had an impact on people who I shared my project with because it's a real time problem and the reality that we live in.
